it takes little to bring government to a grinding halt. a couple people and congress can do it from a president can do it who appeared a few people on the supreme court can do it. it's much easier to keep things from happening and make things happen. what drives compromise is the need to do something, they need to move forward and i think roh is going to have a lot of political theater. i come at this as an english major with a background in theater. so i love the theatrical elements of our politics. i think it's fascinating. it's dramatic, comic, tragic. it's a wonderful bit of literature. in the end, the founding generation had a country to create and they were going to give up almost everything but that. we've got problems to solve and i note in the book and believe right now the national debt is probably her generation's problem to solve and it's a big problem and one where there's a whole lot of different values on the line, different interest on the line. i believe we will compromise is we have to because the alternative is just grin
